In Greek mythology, Minos was the first King of Crete, son of Zeus and Europa. He was known for his goodness and justice. But his cruelty and violence were equally legendary when it comes to punishing the guilty.
In the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri, King Minos is the Judge of the Court of Hell located on the limit between Limbo of the first Circle and the entrance of the second Circle of Lust. His role was to deal specifically with falsely accused people.
